The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) allowed a two-year transition period before enforcement begins on 25th May 2018.  All organisations involved in the processing of personal data - including solicitors and law firms - need to review their strategy, policies and procedures for compliance.
Solicitors hold personal data about their clients and whilst they are governed by the SRA code of conduct which has specific rules regarding client confidentiality and disclosure, GDPR will have a far reaching impact over client’s data which all solicitors and firms must be compliant with come 25th May 2018.

At GC Solicitors we are ensuring awareness amongst all key people and staff that the law is changing as a result of the GDPR. We document what personal data we hold, where it came from and who it is shared with ensuring the client’s individual rights and consent is paramount. We will remain alert to any data breaches and make sure we have the right procedures in place to detect, report and investigate a personal data breach.
